Buffalo, NY - Teaching excellence has always defined a Canisius University education. Less visible but equally vital is the diverse scholarly work conducted by faculty - often with undergraduate students by their side. On Wednesday, October 22, more than 50 Canisius faculty members will showcase their scholarly work and research at the university's inaugural Celebration of Faculty Scholarship, presenting projects that span the sciences, social sciences, humanities and professional programs. The event, which takes place from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. in Science Hall, is free and open to the public.
Hosted by the IMPACT Center, the Celebration of Faculty Scholarship will highlight the depth and breadth of academic inquiry happening across campus and disciplines: from investigations into the tiniest subatomic particles to the vast communication network of humpback whales, to Buffalo's immigrant communities and the cutting-edge applications of artificial intelligence.
"This inaugural Celebration of Faculty Scholarship represents an important moment for Canisius University," says Vice President for Academic Affairs Bridget Niland, JD, PhD. "It demonstrates how scholarly inquiry outside the classroom informs and enriches what happens in the classroom. It's also an opportunity for students - and the broader Western New York community - to see how our faculty push knowledge forward in ways that deepen teaching, spark curiosity and reflect our Jesuit commitment to learning as a lifelong pursuit. I am grateful to all the faculty members who participated and shared their work so generously."
The IMPACT Center at Canisius University serves as a hub to promote and support research and scholarship across all disciplines. It provides resources for student design, grant writing, data analysis, project coordination and dissemination of scholarly work. By fostering a research-center environment, the IMPACT Center empowers faculty and students to contribute to both academic and societal advancement.
