Buffalo, NY – The Dr. George E. Schreiner ’43 Pre-Medical Center at Canisius University will welcome Zorba Paster, MD, to campus on Thursday, April 23 to deliver a lecture titled “Finding Joy in Caring for Others.” The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place at 7:00 p.m. in the Chester HON ’01 and Diane Stranczek Science Hall Commons; doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Paster is best known for hosting “Zorba Paster On Your Health,” which aired on National Public Radio (NPR) for 33 years before ending in fall 2025 and sparked thoughtful, engaging conversations about health and wellness. Paster currently hosts the “Stay Well with Dr. Zorba Paster” podcast, focused on helping people live full, optimistic and vibrant lives by reducing suffering and building resilience.
A family physician for nearly half a century, Paster brings a unique perspective to modern healthcare, blending Western medicine with holistic, integrative approaches to healing. He is a clinical professor of family medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where he mentors medical students and residents.
He has also served as physician to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and provided care for Tibetan refugees through his work with the Friends of Tibetan Delek Hospital, an organization he chairs.
Paster is the author of "The Longevity Code: Your Prescription for a Longer, Sweeter Life," a guide to achieving optimal longevity by balancing all aspects of life – not just the physical. For several years, he authored a weekly health column in The Buffalo News.
The Dr. George E. Schreiner ’43 Pre-Medical Center Distinguished Speaker Series is dedicated to bringing notable figures from the medical and scientific communities to Canisius University. Dr. Schreiner, for whom the series and the pre-medical center is named, was a 1943 alumnus and former trustee of Canisius. Following graduation, Schreiner went on to become an internationally renowned nephrologist. He retired as a distinguished professor of medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center.
