BUFFALO, NY – The Canisius University Borders & Migrations Initiative will host a lecture by Andrea Alvarez, PhD, curator at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Grupp Fireside Lounge of the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center and is free and open to the public.

Alvarez will discuss Let Us Gather in a Flourishing Way, a major exhibition currently on view at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum through September 6, 2026. The exhibition features the work of 58 Latinx artists and explores themes of community, identity and migration across diverse artistic practices. A bilingual catalogue accompanies the exhibit.

Alvarez has been a member of the curatorial team at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum since 2017 and has organized several significant exhibitions, including One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama (2025), From These Hands / De Estas Manos: Narsiso Martinez (2023), and Comunidades Visibles: The Materiality of Migration (2021). She also served as coordinating curator for Firelei Báez’s large-scale mosaic installation in 2023. Her work focuses on contemporary art, with particular emphasis on Latinx, Latin American and global diasporic artists.

During the lecture, Alvarez will provide insight into the curatorial vision behind Let Us Gather in a Flourishing Way and discuss the broader cultural and social contexts that shape the exhibition.
