August 3, 2021

Canisius named College of Distinction for 2021-2022.

BUFFALO, NY – Canisius is named a 2021-22 “College of Distinction.” Colleges of Distinction is an annual publication that recognizes higher education institutions for excelling in four areas: Student engagement, teaching, community and outcomes.

Canisius is recognized for its small class sizes, strong academic programs, faculty expertise and student research opportunities. Also noted is the college’s close-knit community, the diverse number of extra-curricular activities and outlets for service and personal development.

Created in 2000, Colleges of Distinction assists high school students and parents to identify colleges and universities that suit individual personalities and career objectives. To be designated a “College of Distinction,” a school’s curriculum must emphasize such core competencies as critical thinking, writing, oral skills, research, and global perspectives. It must also offer dynamic out-of-classroom learning and study abroad programs. The process is objective, in-depth, and qualitative; however, quantitative data as class-size statistics, faculty-to-student ratio, plus retention and four-year graduation rates are also considered.

One of 27 Jesuit universities in the nation, Canisius is the premier private university in Western New York. Canisius prepares leaders - intelligent, caring, faithful individuals - able to pursue and promote excellence in their professions, their communities and their service to humanity.
