Kimberly Hlavaty

Adjunct Faculty

Professor Kimberly Hlavaty completed her undergraduate education at St. Bonaventure University where she earned her triple certification in Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education (birth-6th grade) with a minor in Psychology.  She received her Master's Degree, also through St. Bonaventure University, where she specialized in Literacy (birth-12th grade).

Prof. Hlavaty has worked as an integrated co-teacher for the past ten years in the Cheektowaga Central School District. She currently serves as co-leader of her school's Special Education Team and Student Study Team.  Prof. Hlavaty's teaching career has also included working as a 4th grade general education teacher, resource room teacher, STEAM summer camp teacher, "Rising Stars Math Camp" teacher, and special class teacher in 12:1:1 and 6:1:1 settings.  She also coached modified softball in her school district for 7 years and has run her school's Book Club and Media/Technology Club.  Additionally, she has served as a mentor in Canisius University's Mentor/Residency Program.

Most recently, Prof. Hlavaty has been accepted into the NYS Master Teacher Program where she is able to further her own professional development in the areas of math and science.  She prides herself on continuously improving her craft and enjoys being a lifelong learner.  Prof. Hlavaty is thrilled to be a part of the Special Education Team here at Canisius University and looks forward to working with future educators to help prepare them to enter, what she firmly believes, is the greatest and most rewarding profession.
