The Medical Laboratory Sciences Program at Canisius University is a unique entity housed within the Biology Department. Students that choose this pathway spend their first three years at Canisius much as Biology Majors would, but with some specialty courses and altered requirements geared towards preparation for their fourth year, which is spent in clinical rotation. Because this pathway still overlaps highly with the Biology Major, switching to the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program is still possible into the Junior year at Canisius.
Please note that the course information listed on the charts below refer to requirements for a degree in the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program and any required or highly recommended (as noted) courses for successful admittance into a Medical Technology Program. Courses required for graduation outside of the Biology department or for MMT Program admittance (i.e. for the Canisius Core or All-College Honors Core Curricula) are not included.
Students actively pursuing this pathway should keep in regular contact with Dr. Allyson Backstrom in the Pre-Medical and Pre-Health Professions Office to keep up with any potential changes to the path below, in conjunction with their regular Biology Department advising sessions.
