After graduating from Canisius University in 2006, Professor Kasprzak taught in self-contained classrooms in grades 3-7 at BPS #45, The International School, for 12 years. This is where she developed her passion for educating learners with diverse needs. During this time, she also earned her Master's in Literacy, followed by a TESOL certification, both of which expanded her knowledge and enhanced her ability to apply it in daily practice with her students.
Professor Kasprzak has since served as a Special Education Itinerant teacher, collaborating with general education teachers to support Pre-K students with varying developmental and behavioral needs. Additionally, while also serving as an adjunct at Canisius, she had the opportunity to mentor future educators, helping them develop practical teaching strategies and an understanding of students' diverse needs.
Now an Associate Professor in Teacher Education and Leadership Development at Canisius, she continues to focus on preparing future educators to establish supportive and equitable classrooms for all learners. Professor Kasprzak is in the final year of her doctoral program, where her research examines the experiences of early career teachers through the lens of trauma-informed pedagogy. This research aims to explore how teacher preparation programs prepare educators to support students affected by trauma.
As a Canisius Alum, Professor Kasprzak’s teaching philosophy aligns with the Jesuit mission as she aims to develop teacher candidates as whole persons by preparing them to become reflective, compassionate, and effective future educators.
