Buffalo, NY – Canisius University significantly expanded its academic portfolio during the 2024-25 academic year, introducing five innovative programs designed to meet evolving workforce demands and provide students with accelerated pathways to advanced degrees. The new offerings demonstrate the university's commitment to creating accessible, career-focused educational opportunities that align with industry growth projections.
New Bachelor's Degree and Accelerated Graduate Programs
The university launched a new Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science beginning in fall 2024, equipping students for dynamic careers in healthcare, allied health, and research. The program integrates scientific training with ethical instruction, drawing on expertise from Canisius' distinguished science departments including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, psychology, and sociology. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers related to biomedical science earn a median salary more than two times the average for all workers, with the field projected to grow faster than average throughout the next decade.
Complementing this new undergraduate offering, Canisius introduced four accelerated degree programs that enable students to complete both bachelor's and master's degrees in significantly reduced timeframes:
4+1 Psychology and Data Analytics Program – Launched in fall 2024, this accelerated track allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science in psychology and Master of Science in data analytics in just five years. The program addresses the growing demand for skilled professionals in data science and analytics, a field projected to grow 35 percent by 2032 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
4+1 Mathematics and Data Analytics Program – Also beginning in 2024, this program enables students to complete both a bachelor's in mathematics and master's in data analytics in five years instead of the traditional six. Students can begin taking graduate-level courses during their senior year, gaining essential technical expertise alongside leadership skills in written and oral communication, teamwork, and critical thinking.
Strategic Educational Partnerships
As part of its strategic priority to develop innovative academic offerings that align with evolving workforce needs, Canisius University forged two significant partnerships during the 2024-25 academic year. These collaborations expand student pathways to advanced degrees while enabling students to reach their professional goals faster and more cost-effectively through streamlined programs and strategic institutional alliances. The two new partnerships are:
Partnership with Northeast College of Health Sciences – The new 4+3 collaboration guarantees that qualified Canisius students earning bachelor's degrees in sports and exercise healthcare or health and wellness can seamlessly transition into Northeast's Doctor of Chiropractic Program. This accelerated option enables students to earn their bachelor's and doctorate degrees a full year earlier than earning each separately, with Canisius students eligible for merit scholarships based on academic standing.
Articulation Agreement with Hilbert College – Beginning in fall 2025, this 4+1 partnership provides Hilbert College undergraduate students with an accelerated pathway to earning a Master of Science in Education and New York State certifications from Canisius. Eligible students begin taking select Canisius education courses during their sophomore year at Hilbert, then transition to complete their master's degree in Adolescent Education (grades 7-12) and Special Education (grades K-12) in approximately one year.
Meeting Workforce Demands
All of these new programs address high-growth professional fields.
Allied healthcare professions are projected to grow faster than average over the next decade, while data analytics represents one of the most rapidly expanding career areas. The education partnership addresses ongoing needs for certified teachers in New York State.
