BUFFALO, NY – The Canisius University accounting program maintained its stronghold in New York State following results from the 2017 Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam.

Alumni of Canisius’ undergraduate accounting program, who sat for the CPA exam for the first time within one year of graduation, earned the highest average score on the exam. The group ranked first (1st) out of 44 colleges and universities in the state.

The 2017 exam results are the most recent to be published by the National Association of the State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) and reaffirm a recent ranking by U.S. News & World Report, which named Canisius’ BS in accounting to its list of Best Undergraduate Business Programs.  The peer ranking placed the college in the top 10 percent nationally.  Canisius’ BS in accounting was the only Western New York program and one of only two programs in New York State to be ranked in this category.  In a subsequent ranking, College Factual named Canisius’ accounting program a Best Value for the Money. The college ranking data provider placed Canisius in the top 10 percent in the country.

Additional results from the 2017 CPA exam place Canisius at No. 2 among first-time test takers who hold undergraduate or graduate degrees (or both) and sat for the exam within one year of graduation, among medium-sized schools, which have 21 – 60 candidates sit for the exam.  Canisius similarly secured the second highest passing score among large schools (those with greater than 60 candidates), when all four testing categories were combined.

Housed in the Richard J. Wehle School of Business, the Canisius University accounting program is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a benchmark for business school quality.  Job placement for Canisius accounting majors is consistently at or near 100 percent.

One of 28 Jesuit universities in the nation, Canisius is the premier private university in Western New York.
