The Canisius Institute for Global Engagement presents two upcoming trips for alumni and lifelong learners.

January 1 – 13, 2019

Havana, Cuba

Join Richard Reitsma, PhD, modern languages chair, for an alumni seminar to Havana.  Explore Cuba and the history of its Revolution by learning how Fidel Castro’s Jesuit background impacted his thinking and the social justice movements of the Cuban Revolution.

Through visits in and around Havana and Santa Clara, participants will experiences the hybrid culture of Cuba that is reflected in its cuisine, music, religious practices, art and architecture.

May 24 – June 2, 2019

El Camino de Santiago

El Camino de Santiago is a centuries-old Christian pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.  Participants will walk an average of 10 – 15 miles a day for seven days along the pilgrimage trail from Sarria, Spain to the cathedral.  This span of walking is not only a form of exercise but an opportunity to foster spiritual connection, renewal and reflection. Visits to Sarria and Santiago are allotted at the beginning and end of the trip.
