Economics and Finance Department

eco/fin

The strength of our Economics and Finance Department lies in investment research and the hands-on experience our students get managing investments as part of our Golden Griffin Fund. In 2015, the Canisius University CFA Research Challenge team took first place at the Global Championship, and we have had three teams advance to the Global Finals since the start of the competition…an accomplishment that no other university in the United States can beat. It’s why we ranked in the top 5% for all finance programs in the U.S. in 2018 by U.S. News and World Report.

Economics students choosing our BA option are typically interested in graduate school or a double major outside the School of Business.  The B.S. option is for those students who want to take the business core in addition to economics classes.

 Management Department
management

Effective management is essential to the success of any business or non-profit. The Management Department helps prepare students to be future managers, capable of planning, organizing, and leading others to achieve goals. Management majors can pursue a program of study which leads to a career in fields such as human resources management or supply chain management. The department also offers the International Business major for students interested in global business.

The Entrepreneurship minor offers unique academic and co-curricular programming for students interested in launching a new business someday. Our Entrepreneurship Council connects students with people from the thriving Buffalo entrepreneurial community inside and outside the classroom. Students interested in this option should consider being involved with Enactus and our student-run business, QuadGear.

The Marketing Department prepares students for a variety of careers in a dynamic industry. As a marketing major, you benefit from a curriculum which exposes you to all of the functional areas of a business. This means you will understand how marketing supports the strategic goals of a company and be able to make sound marketing decisions. Whether you want to work in an agency or for a company, you will learn how to identify customers, research preferences, effectively communicate across a variety of platforms, and promote the value of a product or service.
